Butterfly Pop-Up Book

Butterfly Pop-Up Book craft

Butterflies pop up all over when kids create this booklet that's perfect to gather ideas or whatever is fluttering around in their heads. Burst from the cocoon of ho-hum projects!

  • 1.

For the most interesting effect, choose two different construction paper colors. Use Crayola® Scissors to cut paper into two rectangles, one slightly larger than the other.

  • 2.

Fold the smaller paper in half and crease well. Open it and turn so the crease points up. Draw two triangles, one side along each side of the crease, about halfway to the edge of the paper with Crayola Crayons.

  • 3.

Line up scissors with the point of each triangle and cut away paper on both sides so you're left with a 3-sided shape sticking out at the top of the paper. Fold in where the lines are drawn for the triangle. Crease sharply.

  • 4.

Fold the paper closed like a book so the inverted triangle at the top folds in and you can't see it. When you open the paper the top part will pop up.

  • 5.

With a Crayola Glue Stick, attach the pop-up paper to the larger piece of construction paper to create your booklet.

  • 6.

Draw and cut out several butterflies. Glue one butterfly to the pop-up part. Glue a second butterfly on top of the first one, putting the glue only on the center of the body. Fold up wings on the top butterfly so it looks like it's flying.

Decorate your Butterfly Pop-Up book on the inside and outside with seasonal crayon images.
