Look closely at pictures in a butterfly book, or observe them outdoors. See how their wings match in shape and pattern? Can you find these insects' three body parts? (head, thorax, and abdomen) Butterfly wings are connected to the middle part, thorax, as are their six legs.

To make your own butterfly wings, fold black construction paper in half. With Crayola® Gel Markers, outline your butterfly on one half, with the middle of the body on the fold.

With the paper still folded, use Crayola Scissors to cut around your butterfly.

Draw detailed patterns on both sides of the wings. Include veins and bright colors.
