Keep Away From the Shark!

Keep Away From the Shark! craft

Play an outside bag-toss game on a chalk-decorated sea! Make your game as easy or difficult as you like.

  • 1.

Under the sea, there are lots of beautiful creatures as well as some scary ones. Try to keep your fish away from the sharks by hiding among the coral when you play this cool game.

  • 2.

Design your game field. Ask an adult to help you and your friends find a safe, large area such as a sidewalk. Get permission before you draw. Assemble your Crayola® Chalk ’n Roll™ Drawing Set according to the instructions. Insert sticks of Crayola Sidewalk Chalk. Make sure all the tips will touch the ground.

  • 3.

Outline the boundaries of your playing area with your Chalk ’n Roll set. Next, make circles scattered inside the play space. Draw underwater plants such as kelp and seaweed around these circles.

  • 4.

With the sidewalk chalk, draw things found under the sea inside the circles. Some may be harmless to fish, such as coral or sandbars, and others may be dangerous to fish and people, such as sharks.

  • 5.

Decorate a fish-tossing bag. On both sides of a paper lunch bag, use sidewalk chalk to outline fish with their noses facing the bottom of the bag. Encourage each players to make a unique fish.

  • 6.

Fill each bag with recycled newspaper up to the tail. Close the top with a rubber band. "Feather" the tail with Crayola Scissors.

  • 7.

Play! Players take turns throwing their fish onto the underwater scene. Try to avoid danger zones and land on safe ones. If you wish, come up with a point system for each landing place to see who gains the most points.
