Set sail for the open sea of your kids' imaginations as they recreate Columbus' journeys. These clever story strips let young artists create history with pictures and words.
1.
To make the story frame: Measure a large rectangle on a recycled cardboard box. Ask an adult to cut it out with Crayola® Scissors. In the center of this piece, draw a square. Have an adult cut out the square. Then have an adult cut two long slits from both sides of the frame. These slits will hold your story strip as you pull it through the frame.
2.
Spread recycled newspaper on your work surface. Paint your frame with Crayola Washable Kid's Paint and Brushes. Set aside to dry.
3.
For the story strips: Use a large sheet of white poster board or heavy construction paper. Cut a strip slightly narrower than your story frame slits and as long as you like. With Crayola Washable Markers, draw vertical lines to divide the strips into frames.
4.
Leave the first and last frames blank. Draw your story of Columbus' journey in the remaining frames. Explain the pictures with words. Use as many strips as you need to tell the story
5.
Thread the story strip through the slits in the frame. Pull it through, frame by frame, to read your explorer's tale.
