Wavy Weaving

Wavy Weaving craft

Make your own wavy placemat, decoration for your room, or mat for framing a picture with this fun activity.

  • 1.

Lay a sheet of colored paper horizontally. With Crayola Scissors, make vertical slits about 2 inches (5 cm) apart. Stop before you get to the edge! This is your loom (warp).

  • 2.

With another piece of colorful paper, cut lengthwise, curved strips about 2 inches (5 cm) wide. These are your weft.

  • 3.

Starting at one edge of the loom, weave one strip of your weft over and under each of the strips. Use a Crayola Glue Stick to seal the ends in place.

  • 4.

Begin to weave the next strip the opposite way from the first one. If the first strip is under the first warp strip, start by going over it with the second weft strip, and so on. Glue all the ends as you weave.

  • 5.

Cut out extra doodles for decorations. If you cut a shape and then a swirl inside it, glue just the outside edge on your mat. Gently pull up the center and the strip will pop up from the weaving! You could also cut out letters, sayings, pictures, or anything else!
