Eye Doctor lesson plan

  • 1.

    Rehearse vision screening with each child to assure comfort and confidence.

  • 2.

    Visit an optician's office.

  • 3.

    Ask parents to donate old glasses frames with the lenses removed, white shirts, and other pretend play props.

  • 4.

    What do you see in an eye doctor's office? (magazines, appointment book, telephone, eye chart, patients, receptionist, eye doctor) Set up furniture for a pretend office.

  • 5.

    To make an office sign, use a large sheet of construction paper and Crayola® Washable Markers. Make it sparkle with Crayola® Glitter Glue.

  • 6.

    Look at the variety of glasses frame styles. Draw these, or your own imaginary frames, with markers on poster board so customers can see their choices.

  • 7.

    Create magazines for the waiting room. Write articles with Crayola® Colored Pencils. Illustrate the stories with colored pencils and/or markers.

  • 8.

    Make magazine covers with recycled file folders. Decorate with markers and Glitter Glue. Attach pages with a stapler and staples.

  • 9.

    Keep track of appointments with colored pencils. Write dates, times, and patient names on a calendar. Make sure the receptionist has a telephone.
