Match the Colors

Match the Colors lesson plan

  • 1.

    Toddlers enjoy the challenge of matching colors. Encourage color naming and keen observation skills.

  • 2.

    Encourage children's conversation about color as they work. Tell me about the color you have in your hand. What do you know that is that color?;

  • 3.

    As children show they know primary color names, introduce secondary (orange, green, violet) and tertiary colors (a primary and secondary mixed) to assure the activity is always a challenge.

  • 4.

    Select several Crayola® Crayons and Washable Markers.

  • 5.

    Choose different colors of construction paper and other things such as pretend play props and toys.

  • 6.

    Match the colors of the crayons and markers with the objects.
