My Favorite Things lesson plan

  • 1.

    Choose children's books with beautiful illustrations. Talk about art elements (line, shape, form, color, texture).

  • 2.

    Invite children to describe their materials and efforts. Note their skills for future planning.

  • 3.

    Keep a supply of recycled magazines, brochures, and other pictures on hand.

  • 4.

    Find pictures of your favorite things in recycled magazines. Cut out pictures with Crayola® Scissors. Glue each one on construction paper with a Crayola® Glue Stick.

  • 5.

    Label the pictures with Crayola® Construction Paper™ Crayons. Ask an adult for help with spelling.

  • 6.

    Create a cover for your book with colored construction paper. Write your name and My Favorite Things in crayon. Give it sparkle with Crayola® Glitter Glue. Staple your book together.
