Pet Store

Pet Store lesson plan

  • 1.

Pets delight children, so this activity is a natural extension of their interests. Read stories about pets. Build on children's ideas.

  • 2.

Visit a pet store. Make drawings and write stories about the experience.

  • 3.

Invite real pets (one at a time, with an adult who can stay).

  • 4.

What do you see at a pet store? (cash register, cages, pets, food).

  • 5.

With an adult, decide where to set up a pretend pet store. What could you call it? With Crayola Construction Paper™ Crayons, make a colorful store sign on a large piece of construction paper.

  • 6.

Use recycled cardboard boxes to make cages for different sizes of stuffed animals. Use Crayola® Scissors to cut off box flaps. Put stuffed animals inside.

  • 7.

Cut strips of construction paper for cage bars. Attach bars with Crayola® Glue Sticks.

  • 8.

Make pretend money, animal name signs, and price tags with crayons and construction paper.

  • 9.

Who will do what when you play pet store? (cashier, pet feeder, cage cleaner, order placer, customer service, shoppers).
