    Food preparation is excellent for children to learn about measurement (math), changes in ingredients with mixing and heating (science), healthy foods (nutrition), and reading recipes and containers (literacy). Children also develop fine motor skills and g

    In advance, or as children dictate the recipe, write it on chart paper with a marker. Use words and pictures to show measurements, ingredients, and steps. Say words and numerals as you write. Read the recipe to prepare the food.

    Plastic dinner knives are safe for children to cut food. Keep sharp knives out of their reach.

  • 4.

    Invent a new snack. What ingredients do you need? How do you prepare them? Ask an adult to write your recipe on a chart.

  • 5.

    Prepare the food and eat it.

  • 6.

    Write your recipe with Crayola® Colored Pencils on white paper.

  • 7.

    Draw pictures of how to make the recipe with Crayola® Washable Markers, Washable Crayons, or Colored Pencils.
