Roads, Bridges, & Tunnels

Roads, Bridges, & Tunnels lesson plan

  • 1.

Save boxes and cardboard rolls. When children build roads or waterways with blocks, suggest they add to their constructions.

  • 2.

Read books and visit Internet sites about roads, bridges, and tunnels.

  • 3.

With children, observe and talk about local structures including those under construction. Encourage young civil engineers.

  • 4.

Construct a road, bridge, and/or tunnel using cardboard rolls and boxes. Make sure your cars, trains, and boats fit.

  • 5.

Cut out pieces, such as arches, with Crayola® Scissors. Glue the structure together with Crayola® School Glue. Dry overnight.

  • 6.

Use Crayola® Washable Markers to add lane-dividing lines, signs, or girders, for example.
