What Goes Where?

What Goes Where? lesson plan

  • 1.

Recycle junk mail. Appliance and furniture flyers are the perfect resource for this activity.

  • 2.

Invite children to describe their work. Talk about art elements (line, shape, form, color, texture).

  • 4.

To create a house: Select cardboard boxes for rooms. Ask for adult help to remove any flaps.

  • 5.

Spread the work area with newspaper. Put on a Crayola® Art Smock. Decorate the inside of each box as a different room with Crayola® Washable Kid's Paint and So Big® Brushes. Dry overnight.

  • 6.

Glue the boxes together with Crayola® School Glue to make rooms in a house. Paint the outside and add a roof if you like.

  • 7.

Cut wallpaper, gift-wrap, or fabric scraps and glue to the walls or floors. Dry overnight.

  • 8.

To shop for furnishings: Look through magazines to find small pictures of household objects. Cut out the pictures with Crayola® Scissors.

  • 9.

Cut recycled file folders a little bit bigger than your pictures.

  • 10.

Use a Crayola® Glue Stick to attach your pictures to the cards. Add sparkle to lamps or other furnishings with Crayola® Glitter Glue.

  • 11.

Sort the pictures into rooms. Which items might go in more than one room?
