Amelia Earhart's career included many firsts. She was the first woman to receive a pilot's license from the Fédération Aéronautique Internationale (FAI) and became the first woman to fly solo over the Atlantic. She left Harbor Grace Newfoundland, Canada, on May 20, 1932, for her historic crossing to Londonderry, Ireland. It took her 4 hours, 54 minutes to make the flight. On January 11, 1935, Amelia became the first person to fly solo across the Pacific, from Honolulu, Hawaii, to Oakland, California - a 2,408 mile flight. She was also the first to fly solo from Mexico City to Newark. In 1937, Amelia Earhart disappeared while attempting to become the first woman to fly around the world.
