LOVE Poster

Use pop art techniques to create a beautiful poster for Dad, Mom, or any loved one. Mixed media create a neat effect.

• 1.

  Research pop or contemporary artists such as Jasper Johns, Andy Warhol, and Roy Lichtenstein to learn about their simple style of drawing and painting.

• 2.

  Using Crayola® Watercolor Paints and Watercolor Brushes, paint a large piece of white construction paper in gradients of one color from the darkest shade and gradually ending with the lightest. Dry.

• 3.

  Divide the painted paper with Crayola Colored Pencils into four large, identical rectangles. Cut them out with Crayola Scissors.

• 4.

  Write one letter of the word LOVE on each rectangle with colored pencils using a contemporary or block style. Fill in each letter with gradients of one color, starting with the darkest shade and gradually ending with the lightest. Decorate the background of the letters using colored pencils to create the same gradient technique. With Crayola School Glue, attach the four rectangular letters to a larger construction paper background. Leave space between each one and at the top.

• 5.

  Using Crayola Fine Tip Markers, write words, such as A Mother Means..., in large letters across the top of your poster. Use your imagination to come up with other phrases or words to describe your mother or the person you will honor with this poster.

• 6.

  To create an added dimension on your poster, write the same words continuously around each letter of the word LOVE.

Adaptations

• Change the poster theme by changing the word. Add gradients of color to enhance your word. An example would be to write the word BLUE and then color your background with gradients of this color. Write phrases pertaining to the color continuously around the outside.
• Use this style of poster to write someone's name or nickname. Then write phrases pertaining to that person continuously around the letters of their name.
• Special needs students may need some adult help in drawing the large block letters of the word LOVE. Stencils could also be used.
