Where’s the Word?

Where’s the Word? lesson plan

Be a super sleuth! Play hide and seek with words. Can you find the hidden word?

  • 1.

In large block letters, use Crayola® Erasable Colored Pencils to write a short word or your name. Color the block letters.

  • 2.

Use regular Crayola Colored Pencils to color in all around the word. Use the same color in blocks surrounding the letter so your word seems to vanish in the design.

  • 3.

Exchange papers with a friend. Use the Erasable Twistables eraser to erase and find your friend’s hidden word.

Benefits

  • Children write, spell, and recognize high-frequency words.
  • Children practice flexibility with reading and writing using an engaging medium.

Adaptations

  • Practice spelling words with this activity. Write them one day, and erase them another day.
  • Write a word for a friend with Erasable Twistables. Then erase one of the letters. Challenge your friend to make a new word by replacing that letter with another one. Continue to erase letters until you can find no more new words.
  • Add a hidden picture along with your word. Make the picture show something about your hidden word.
