Fruit & Veggie Rubbings craft

Please touch! Fruits and veggies have such interesting skin textures. Create colorful rubbings with Crayola® Large Washable Crayons.

Fruits and vegetables have really cool skins. Some textures are hard, others are fuzzy. Some are smooth, while other fruits are bumpy or even prickly. Seeds are part of a few skins, such as strawberries. You can preserve skin textures with crayon rubbings.

Peel the paper labels off Crayola Large Washable Crayons.

Choose fruits and veggies with interesting skin textures (and that are hard enough to rub on). You can do your rubbings on whole fruits, maybe a pineapple. Or eat the inside first and do your rubbings on dry peels, which might work best for softer fruits such as kiwi.

  • 4.

Put white paper on top of a fruit skin. Hold a crayon sideways. Rub hard. The texture of the skin will begin to show on your paper.

Try different colors and angles to get more patterns. Rub a second time on a different skin for a more complex design. Try realistic colors and imaginary ones, too. Can you remember which food made which texture?
