Leaping Dolphin Photo Holder

Leaping Dolphin Photo Holder craft

Bring the ocean indoors! Create a fabulous photo holder that features a leaping dolphin and crashing waves. Funky wire spirals hold photos or postcards of your favorite friends or vacation memories.

  • 1.

Cut two pieces of craft wire, each about 24 inches (61 cm) long. Tightly wrap the center of each wire twice around the neck, below the cap, of a full, plastic water bottle. Twist the wires together to secure.

  • 2.

Wrap the loose ends of wires around a marker barrel and form them into spiral shapes to hold photos.

  • 3.

Mix hues of Crayola Model Magic® compound to get the base color you want. Pat and shape the compound to completely cover the water bottle and the twisted wire at the neck. Do not cover the wire spirals at the top. Model Magic Model Magic compound sticks to itself and almost any surface!

  • 4.

Mix blue with a small amount of yellow to create an ocean color. Lightly mix your ocean color with a bit of white to form streaks. Pull and pat waves from the ocean mix. Press the waves on the base.

  • 5.

Make free-form shapes for the ocean foam. Loop thin strands along the edges of the waves for a lacy effect.

  • 6.

Add color from a black Crayola Washable Marker to white compound to make gray for the dolphin. Pat and form it into shape. Position the dolphin on the waves.

  • 7.

Use modeling tools to press shapes and details into the sculpture to add realism. Model Magic® dries to the touch overnight and dries completely in 2 to 3 days.

  • 8.

Cover your craft area with newspaper. Use Crayola Mixing Mediums--either Pearl It! or Glitter It!--to add highlights to the dolphin. Air-dry the coating before inserting photographs in the wire holders.
