Underwater Art

Underwater Art craft

Kick off the summer months with creativity, color, water, and your favorite sea creatures! Create art with Crayola Oil Pastels and a bar of soap.

  • 1.

Draw sea creatures on paper with a dry bar of soap.

  • 2.

Use Crayola Oil Pastels to color over your drawing and the entire piece of paper.

  • 3.

Place the paper into a pan of cold water.

  • 4.

Gently move your fingers over the paper to reveal the creature you drew in soap. Rub fingers over the slippery, soapy places to find the lines of your drawing. Keep rubbing gently to reveal your creature.

  • 5.

Ask a friend to help and carefully lift the paper out of the water with one person on each side, lifting at the corners.

  • 6.

Place the wet paper on old newspaper to dry.

  • 7.

    What’s next? MAKE MORE!

  • 8.

This project is so much fun. Since it gets pretty wet, you might want to do it outside on a porch or patio or even under a shady tree. If you have a clothesline nearby, you can even clip the artwork on the line with clothespins to dry!
