Visit a greenhouse, floral design center, home, or office where green thumbs are evident. Ask children to list things they saw and smelled: refrigerators, plants in pots, floral arrangements, bags of soil, ribbons, empty pots, cash register, telephone, ho

Find out about plant-care jobs: greenhouse workers, sales clerks, floral designers, truck drivers. Which jobs rely on math? Botany? Art?

Ask parents to contribute empty plastic plant pots and flower vases.

Think of all the things you see at a plant store. What do you need to set up a pretend plant business?

To make signs and money: With your friends, decide what to call your plant store. Write the name in big letters with Crayola® Washable Markers on a large sheet of construction paper.

Cut white construction paper into money-sized rectangles with Crayola® Scissors. Draw faces and other designs on your bills with markers.

To make plants: Choose different colors of green construction paper. Draw leaves with markers. Cut them out.

On white construction paper, draw bright flowers and cut them out. Fill in both sides.

With Crayola® School Glue, attach flowers and leaves to drinking-straw stems. Dry overnight.

Artistically arrange leaves and flowers in a pot or vase.
