Who Wants the Drumstick? lesson plan

  • 1.

    Listen to music with distinctive beats, such as marches or calypsos. Children march or dance to the music.

  • 2.

    Tap out beats on a drum. Ask children to match with clapping, head nods, or hops.

  • 4.

    Cover the outside of an oatmeal box, coffee can with plastic lid, or similar round container with construction paper. Cut the paper to fit with Crayola® Scissors.

  • 5.

    Decorate the drum cover with Crayola® Construction Paper™ Crayons and Glitter Glue. Dry overnight.

  • 6.

    Glue the cover around the drum with Crayola® School Glue.

  • 7.

    Decorate the drum head (box lid) with markers. Glue it on the drum. Dry overnight.

  • 8.

    Use your palms, fingers, a chopstick, wooden spoon, or dowel stick as a drumstick.
