About North Pole

Use Crayola® crayons, colored pencils, or markers to color the map of the North Pole. The North Pole is the earth's northernmost point. It is located at the northern end of the earth's axis, an imaginary line through the center of the earth around which the earth revolves. It is also the northern center from which all the meridians of longitude begin. From the North Pole, all directions on the earth's surface are south. The North Pole lies in the Arctic Ocean, and is usually covered with ice. Did you know?
A team of explorers lead by Robert Peary & Matthew Henson reached the North Pole on April 6, 1909. The were assisted by four Eskimos named Coquesh, Ootah, Eginwah and Seegloo. The set sail on July 17, 1908, on the ship Roosevelt. Henson, a black explorer, arrived at the North Pole 45 minutes before the exhausted Robert Peary. On April 5, 1971, Fran Phipps became the first woman to visit the North Pole.
