What colors come to mind when you think of the word happy? Are you seeing bright colors like yellow and pink? Now imagine what angry looks like. Did you see red? We frequently associate colors with certain moods. However, seeing certain colors can sometime change our moods as well! Pale colors like baby blue and mint green are known to be soothing and calm people. More intense colors, like electric blue and neon green can make us excited!

Think about the kind of mood you want to create in your bedroom. Do you want the atmosphere to be exciting and playful or relaxing and quiet? What colors do you think would help create that mood?

  • 3.

Design a lampshade using colors and designs that reflect the mood you wish to create in your bedroom! Select a blank fabric lampshade on which to create your design. For the best results, use 100% cotton fabric.

  • 4.

Cover the lampshade with colorful symbols, designs, and phrases using Crayola® Bright Fabric Markers! Place a piece of paper underneath the lampshade to protect the work area. Draw your designs, making sure you saturate the cloth. Use several layers of marker for the brightest, boldest colors!

Stain Advisement: Fabric markers are permanent on clothing and contain colorants that may stain household surfaces. Wear a smock to protect clothing and cover your work surface. Recap markers as soon as possible and store in a horizontal position. Do not shake markers.

When you are finished, ask an adult to use a hair dryer on the hottest setting for a few minutes on the design. This will fix the color to the fabric.
